"Om Jai Shri Vishwakarma" is the best-known aarti of Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect and craftsman of the gods. It is sung at the end of Vishwakarma Puja, after the worship of the deity and the tools and after the Vishwakarma Puja katha has been read. Where a havan is performed, the aarti usually follows it, and the prasad is shared once the aarti is over.
The aarti is short and easy to learn. Its stanzas recall the stories of the katha: Sage Angira, the king who was healed, and the chariot-maker and his wife. The last stanza names its poet as Swami Gajanand. Below you will find the full aarti in English transliteration, followed by a simple stanza-by-stanza meaning and a few tips for singing it.

Meaning of the aarti, stanza by stanza
Stanza 1: Om Jai Shri Vishwakarma
Victory to you, Lord Vishwakarma. You are the maker of all creation and the protector of the Vedas (Shruti) and of dharma.
Stanza 2: Aadi Srishti Mein Vidhi Ko
At the very beginning of creation you taught the Vedas to Vidhi (Brahma, the creator), and you brought knowledge and growth to every living being in the world. This recalls the first chapter of the katha, where the Lord in his Vishwakarma form creates Brahma and teaches him the Vedas.
Stanza 3: Rishi Angira Ne Tap Se
Sage Angira found no peace through his austerities, but when he meditated on you, every kind of accomplishment came to him. This is the story of the second chapter of the katha.
Stanza 4: Rog Grast Raaja Ne
When the king suffering from disease took refuge in you, you became the remover of his troubles and took away his pain. This refers to King Pramangad in the third chapter of the katha.
Stanza 5: Jab Rathkaar Dampati
When the chariot-maker and his wife called out to you, you heard their humble prayer and removed all their hardship. This is the couple from Varanasi in the fourth chapter of the katha.
Stanza 6: Ekaanan Chaturaanan
You shine in forms with one face, four faces and five faces, and you are adorned in every form, with two arms, four arms and ten arms. The same forms are described by Sage Lomash in the fifth chapter of the katha.
Stanza 7: Dhyaan Dhare Jab Pad Ka
When a devotee meditates on your feet, every success comes to them; the confusion of the mind disappears and they gain unshakeable strength.
Stanza 8: Shri Vishwakarma Ji Ki Aarti
Swami Gajanand says that whoever sings this aarti of Shri Vishwakarma is blessed with happiness and good fortune. As with all such closing lines, this is a statement of devotional faith.
Tips for singing the aarti
- Prepare the aarti plate with a ghee lamp or camphor, a few flowers, roli and akshat (unbroken rice). A small bell is rung throughout.
- Wave the plate in slow clockwise circles before the image of Lord Vishwakarma. By common custom it is waved four times at the feet, twice at the navel, once at the face and then seven times over the whole image.
- In workshops and factories, many people also show the lamp to the tools, machines and vehicles that have been worshipped that day.
- Sing the refrain "Om Jai Shri Vishwakarma" together after every stanza, clapping in time.
- After the aarti, take the lamp to everyone present; each person passes their palms over the flame and touches them to their eyes and head. Then share the prasad with all the workers and guests.

"ॐ जय श्री विश्वकर्मा" देवताओं के दिव्य शिल्पी भगवान विश्वकर्मा की सबसे प्रसिद्ध आरती है। यह विश्वकर्मा पूजा के अंत में गाई जाती है, यानी भगवान और औज़ारों के पूजन तथा विश्वकर्मा पूजा कथा के पाठ के बाद। जहां हवन होता है, वहां आरती प्रायः हवन के बाद की जाती है, और आरती पूरी होने पर प्रसाद बांटा जाता है।

आरती का सरल अर्थ
पहला पद: ॐ जय श्री विश्वकर्मा
हे प्रभु विश्वकर्मा, आपकी जय हो। आप सारी सृष्टि के रचयिता हैं और वेदों (श्रुति) तथा धर्म के रक्षक हैं।
दूसरा पद: आदि सृष्टि में विधि को
सृष्टि के आरंभ में आपने विधि (सृष्टिकर्ता ब्रह्मा) को वेदों का उपदेश दिया और संसार के सभी जीवों में ज्ञान का विकास किया। यह पद कथा के पहले अध्याय की याद दिलाता है, जहां भगवान विश्वकर्मा रूप में ब्रह्मा को रचकर उन्हें वेदों का ज्ञान देते हैं।
तीसरा पद: ऋषि अंगिरा ने तप से
महर्षि अंगिरा को तपस्या से शांति नहीं मिली, पर जब उन्होंने आपका ध्यान किया तो उन्हें सब सिद्धियां प्राप्त हो गईं। यह कथा के दूसरे अध्याय का प्रसंग है।
चौथा पद: रोग ग्रस्त राजा ने
रोग से पीड़ित राजा ने जब आपकी शरण ली, तो आपने संकटमोचन बनकर उसका दुख दूर किया। यह कथा के तीसरे अध्याय के राजा प्रमंगद की ओर संकेत है।
पांचवां पद: जब रथकार दंपति
जब रथकार और उसकी पत्नी ने आपको पुकारा, तो आपने उनकी दीन प्रार्थना सुनकर उनकी सारी विपत्ति हर ली। यह कथा के चौथे अध्याय के वाराणसी वाले दंपति का प्रसंग है।
छठा पद: एकानन चतुरानन
आप एक मुख, चार मुख और पांच मुख वाले रूपों में शोभा पाते हैं, और दो भुजा, चार भुजा तथा दस भुजा वाले सभी रूपों में सुशोभित हैं। इन्हीं रूपों का वर्णन कथा के पांचवें अध्याय में लोमश मुनि करते हैं।
सातवां पद: ध्यान धरे जब पद का
जब भक्त आपके चरणों का ध्यान करता है, तो उसे हर सफलता मिलती है; मन की दुविधा मिट जाती है और उसे अटल शक्ति प्राप्त होती है।
आठवां पद: श्री विश्वकर्मा जी की आरती
स्वामी गजानंद कहते हैं कि जो कोई श्री विश्वकर्मा जी की यह आरती गाता है, उसे सुख और संपत्ति मिलती है। हर आरती के अंतिम पद की तरह यह भी भक्त की आस्था का वचन है।
आरती करते समय ध्यान रखने योग्य बातें
- आरती की थाली में घी का दीपक या कपूर, कुछ फूल, रोली और अक्षत रखें। पूरी आरती के दौरान छोटी घंटी बजाएं।
- थाली को भगवान विश्वकर्मा की प्रतिमा या चित्र के सामने धीरे-धीरे घड़ी की दिशा में घुमाएं। प्रचलित परंपरा के अनुसार चार बार चरणों के सामने, दो बार नाभि के सामने, एक बार मुख के सामने और फिर सात बार पूरी प्रतिमा के सामने आरती उतारी जाती है।
- कारखानों और कार्यशालाओं में बहुत से लोग उस दिन पूजे गए औज़ारों, मशीनों और वाहनों को भी आरती दिखाते हैं।
- हर पद के बाद सब मिलकर "ॐ जय श्री विश्वकर्मा" गाएं और ताल में ताली बजाएं।
- आरती के बाद दीपक सभी उपस्थित लोगों के सामने ले जाएं; हर व्यक्ति लौ के ऊपर हथेलियां घुमाकर आंखों और सिर से लगाता है। इसके बाद सभी कारीगरों और अतिथियों में प्रसाद बांटें।
